The six to 18 month phase of life is certainly interesting. William sat up, started eating solid foods, suddenly became mobile and then it was all over for us. Since we are older parents and can’t keep up the chase for long, we have perfected the “Please don’t do that” list of sayings that will go down in our family’s history. Here is just a sampling:
• Don’t put that in the toilet.
• Please get off the cat.
• Please don’t touch the dog there. (Some dogs just have built-in bulls-eyes. Other dogs are thankful for bushy or droopy tails.)
• Don’t hit me with the toilet brush.
• Stop eating the campfire charcoal.
• Put your pants back on.
• Books are not for eating.
