Why Labour is Like the Stomach Flu

(or Food Poinsoning or One-Too-Many Drinks)
  • They both have a major internal organ working very hard to evacuate something from your body.
  • You really, really wish you didn’t have to be there when this happens.
  • You secretly hope it only lasts 24 hours.
  • There’s no fighting it.
  • You get a break between “episodes” (contractions or stomach heaves).
  • At some point you always get to that place where you just want to rest your head against the cold porcelain toilet bowl.
